We asked Dolly, Champinx’s creator to answer a few questions so we could get to know a little more about the face behind the brand:
Where is your favourite place in the world?
That would have to be Mauritius. I love the humbling culture, the natural beauty of the landscape and the calming sound of the ocean lapping the shores.
Who is your favourite designer?
My favourite designer of all time is Dolce and Gabbana. D&G don’t shy away from colours, and I love the boldness of their designs, combined with the handmade and hand-created detail on their clothing, accessories and bags – so inspiring! No matter what season it is, Dolce & Gabbana effortlessly incorporates boldness and colour into their collection. I am also currently lusting after a new French brand called Sézane. The founder, Morgan Sezalory is a spectacular woman who started out by selling her sister’s clothes on eBay. I have serious girl crush!
Who inspires you?
This might not be the answer you are expecting, but I draw inspiration from my mother and mother-in-law. The name Champinx is a combination of their names, too – My mother’s maiden name was Champa and Pinx comes from Pinky, my mother-in-law’s name. Both women are strong, mindful, loving and supportive. They both support me in different ways and I am pretty sure that Champinx wouldn’t be happening if it wasn’t for them.
What do you love about your home city, London?
The vibrancy, diversity and the element of surprise. Champinx is all this, which is why London provides the best inspiration.
How often do you visit India?
I visit three to four times a year for Champinx. It’s important to me that I establish a range of ethical and genuine suppliers.
What are your go-to Champinx pieces?
I am in love with our bright cashmere and silk blended scarves. I tend to dress in fairly neutral colours day to day, and add colour through accessories and jewellery, based on what the day has in store for me.
